Flax is a plant that is usually grown for its fibers and for its seeds. Flax seeds have been known to provide several health benefits, which is why they are becoming more popular now. Flax seeds usually come in two basic varieties, brown and yellow or golden. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to be good for the heart.
They also contain high levels of lignans which may benefit the heart, and may possess anti-cancer properties. Lab tests have shown that flax seeds may help improve the condition of individuals with certain types of breast and prostate cancer. Flax seeds may also help stabilize the blood-sugar levels of diabetics.
Too much intake of flax seeds though may be bad for those taking some kind of medication, as the high fiber content could impair the effectiveness of the said medication. So, as with most things, finding the right balance is the key. Flax seeds are beneficial to the health, but not when taken too much.
